Operation Foxhole Atheists

Operation Foxhole Atheists (OFA), a side project of NAFA, sends care packages to foxhole Atheists deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. OFA started after hearing about Atheist soldiers in Iraq who attempted to start an Atheist group (see picture below). The Atheist soldiers were harassed by Major Welborn, who threatened to use the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) against the Atheist soldiers. The Major, by misusing his rank to harass the soldiers and trump their attempt to exercise their right in the military to the freedom of religion, violated the UCMJ.

NOTE: There is currently a lawsuit in place against Major Welborn and Defense Secretary Robert Gates for promoting a religiously hostile military environment.

NAFA members were deeply disturbed by the actions of Major Welborn and other stories from foxhole Atheists. NAFA wanted to support Atheist soldiers with care packages and letters of support. That first initial event turned into a national effort to help support foxhole Atheists deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. OFA sends foxhole Atheists care packages with their needs and wants.

OFA does not spam soldiers. All foxhole Atheists are asked if they want care packages, if they do or do not want Atheist-related material in their package, and if they have any special requests for their care packages.

Please help support foxhole Atheists deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. No matter your views of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is the politicians to blame, not the soldiers. Sending packages of hard-to-find items, specific requests, and letters of support to foxhole Atheists helps make their war zone time feel a little like home. Atheist soldiers go day-to-day without praying to any man-made gods. They get comfort from friends, family, and fellow atheists like you who care.

Due to sensitivity for the privacy of OFA-supported foxhole Atheists, to reduce risk of physical harm (called "fragging" in the military), and to maintain Operational Security (OpSec), the names, addresses, and specific FOB of foxhole Atheists will not be disclosed to the public.
